Process maturity, independently appraised
CMMI describes how capable an organisation’s processes are, from defined and consistently followed (Maturity Level 3) to continuously optimised using quantitative data (Maturity Level 5). Customers in software, IT services and engineering often ask suppliers for a published rating.
Our appraisals are led by CMMI Institute certified lead appraisers using the Benchmark method. The result is a maturity level rating for a defined organisational unit, which the CMMI Institute publishes so your customers can look it up.

How an appraisal runs
Each appraisal follows the CMMI Institute’s method from planning to published results.

Planning
The lead appraiser agrees the model, maturity level, organisational unit and sampled projects with your appraisal sponsor.

Readiness review
A readiness review checks that evidence and participants are in place before the appraisal is scheduled.

Benchmark appraisal
The appraisal team examines evidence and interviews practitioners across the sampled work to rate practice areas.
04
Results
The maturity level rating is presented to the sponsor and submitted to the CMMI Institute, which publishes it on its results system.
